Bizarre, Crazy, Silly, Unknown Holidays &
Observances
November comes from the Latin
word novem, "nine," because this had been the ninth month in the early Roman
calendar.
(Note: Although it's our eleventh month, the name never got
changed.)
Stone = Yellow Topaz
Flower = Chrysanthemum

(Always
First Saturday. This is what Chase's Calendar put and so I stuck with
that formula for this observance. But, a Sadie Hawkins Dance can be
held anytime a school or someone wants to have one.
Also, some call Leap
Year Day - Feb. 29 as Sadie Hawkins Day also because tradition states that
women can ask the men to marry them on that day. To me, Leap
Year Day is not Sadie Hawkins Day and they are two separate observances.
Asking a guy to a dance is different than asking him to marry you.
Although...in the cartoon strip, once the single gals caught their guys in
the annual footrace, the men were forced to marry the gal that caught them
aka a shotgun wedding per se. ;) Hope this helps to clarify things a
bit.)

Full Moon on the 5th is called
"Beaver Moon" by Native Americans of New England and the Great Lakes because
at this time of the year those little beavers are industriously preparing
for winter.
For 2025, this moon is also called the "Super Moon" because it will be
at 90% perigree and closest to the Earth. Therefore, it will look much
bigger.
November 4-5 - Taurids Meteor Shower which isn't too spetacular and only
produces about 5-10 meteors per hour. This runs from September 7 - December
10, but peaks on November 4 (night.) The moon will block out most of the
meteors except the bright ones. Best to view in a dark area away from city
lights.
November 17-18 - Leonids Meteor Shower which is average and
produces about 15 meteors per hour; but, it's cyclonic peak is every 33
years where it produces hundres of meteors per hour. The last time was in
2001. It runs from November 6-30 but peaks this year on November 17
(night) and November 18 (morning.) However, there's also a Full Moon which
is going to block the fainter meteors.
November 21: Uranus at
Opposition. Best time to view this planet.
