Present

Whitney Houston
*Singing our National Anthem at Super Bowl 25 in 1991
the

"Star Spangled Banner"
by Francis Scott Key, 1814

O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,

What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming,

Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight

O'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket's red glare, the bomb bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,

O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

*A website fan named Bill [ Thanks ;) ] wrote me and told me it was
performed at  Super Bowl 25 in 1991.
For those who remember, this was during the Gulf War.  And, patriotism (like today) was feverish.  It is believed to be the reason Whitney sang this song with such intense feeling and quality. Many still consider hers as  the best version out so far.
