Bizarre, Crazy, Silly, Unknown Holidays & Observances

December comes from the word decem, "ten," because this had been the tenth month of the early Roman calendar.  (Note: Although it's our 12th month, it never was changed.)

Full Moon on  the 26th is called "Cold Moon" by Native Americans of New England and the Great Lakes because at this time of the year the nights are long, the days are short and so less sunlight means more cold days.

December 13-14: Geminids Meteor Shower. This is the MOST IMPRESSIVE!!!  About 120 multi-colored meteors per hour. It runs from December 7-17, but peaks on the night of December 13th.

December 21-22: Ursids Meteor Shower. (About 5-10 meteors per hour)
